Auction
On December 20th, 2022, we held a specialty coffee auction featuring some of the finest beans from the Piatã region of Bahia, Brazil. As a terroir known for producing some of the best coffee in the world, it’s no surprise that 42% of the winners of the Cup of Excellence 2022 came from this specific area.
Through the partnership between Antônio Rigno, Kleomor Moreira, Cândido Rosa, José Joaquim Santana, Fabiano Borré, Silvio Leite, and ACE, Brazil just had the chance to host its first country in ACE’s Private Collection Auction series in 2022.
The auction was a success, with 22 lots available for bidding. We were thrilled to see interest from buyers all over the world, with buyers hailing from Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, the US, and Bulgaria. The auction featured 7,142.91lb of coffee, with the highest bid reaching a staggering U$10,3. The auction ran for a total of 2.65 hours, and we were thrilled to see such strong participation from coffee lovers everywhere.
We’re excited to announce that Saza Coffee, Osito Coffee, Wataru & Co., Dabov Specialty Coffee, Nozy Coffee, Youngdae Coffee, Café Três Corações, Sarutahiku Coffee, Ryans Coffee Roasters, and Soho Caf’é, and Melbourne Coffee Merchants have all been awarded the highest honors for their coffee beans.
We hope this initiative will help sustain the livelihoods of Piatã coffee farmers and their families in the long run by building a robust and efficient value chain that can create jobs and bring stability to the region. By supporting the growth of this industry, we aim to contribute to the community’s long-term prosperity.

About
Silvio Leite is a Brazilian entrepreneur and one of the pioneers of the specialty-coffee movement with more than 40 years of experience in coffee classification, cup tasting, and quality control.
He developed and implemented quality control on the Italian company Bozzo units while based in Geneve, Switzerland.
After the experience abroad, he returned to Brazil for a project aligned with the Portuguese Espirito Santo group. At this point, Silvio became a specialist in coffee processing, quality control, and harvesting.
1992 was the year of the BSCA foundation, a much-expected debut.
In 1999, Silvio Leite co-founded and co-created all the technical protocols of the Cup of Excellence (COE) alongside George Howell and Susie Splinder. Nowadays, he still works as a Head Judge for COE and has more than 30 COE competitions worldwide. Furthermore, Silvio gives training, calibrating, and cup-tasting as needed or required for every round.
Around 2000, founded and promoted a local competition on specialty coffee in Bahia called “Assocafé.”
From 2019 and on, the acquisition of Cerca de Pedras São Benedito Farm at Piatã, Bahia, has been a new journey of excitement.

Cerca de Pedras São Benedito
Located at Brazil, Bahia, Chapada Diamantina, Piatã, and elevation 1.270m above sea level.
Six hectares are producing Red and Yellow Catuaí.
Our processing methods include Natural, washed, fermented, and Honey.
Each and every coffee variety has specific attributes of aroma, body, acidity, and sweetness. It is essential for us to use only the coffee varieties best adapted to our farm’s altitude, climate, and soil.

Coffee cupping training (CCT) Brazil edition was a one-of-a-kind experience to give yourself a level up on sensory education. Our first edition was 2019 and allowed students to improve their sensory and technical skills by calibrating them. All attendants were able to evaluate coffee and develop accuracy, consistency, and confidence. Silvio Leite instructs the CCT classes alongside great names in the coffee scenario. It is an opportunity to bring years of valuable coffee knowledge while you are in your own workspace.
